Promoting good manners in everyday life - a study.

Interpersonal behaviour in public spaces is becoming increasingly shaped by machines and interfaces. “Real touchpoints” with other people are becoming more and more seldom in our digitaldaily lives. I studied the possibilities of communicating good manners in everyday life within the framework of my bachelors thesis. The aim of the work was an increased integration of new symbols and gestures, such as the tip of a hat, in everyday life. The divider, used to partition groceries on a supermarket conveyer belt is an object which is used millions of times daily. Its use often subtly shows good or bad manners. In this project, I used the divider as a symbol to promote and practise good manners with each other. The semantics of conveyer belt dividers were designed to cultivate a culture of good manners at the hectical supermarket checkoutin a design study. The divider is an impulse to once again observe basic societal values. The next “thank you” isn’t far away!
