Strategy to increase biodiversity in urban areas.

Urban beekeeping? Again? Beekeeping has been booming in cities for years. More and more people spend their free time keeping thousands of insects on the roofs of our cities: honeybees. Various product and service innovations have maintained this ecological trend for years. But beekeeping alone is not enough to ensure the biodiversity of pollinators and is sometimes even counterproductive. We need structural solutions. This Master Thesis shows potentials and approaches to designing a sustained „bee friendly“ urban district and draws attention to little known pollinators. The outcome is a service concept, together with a communications strategy that coordinates and provides a wide range of food for wild- and honeybees in the city.
